    September First Friday

As part of “First Friday,” the Lynchburg Museum at 901 Court Street will be open free of charge on Friday, September 5th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. This month the Museum will feature artifacts highlighting the history of the Lynchburg Fire Department. Organized professionally in 1883, after a deadly fire on Main Street claimed the lives of five volunteer firemen, the Lynchburg Fire Department is one of the city’s oldest public service institutions.

On September 5th visitors will have the rare opportunity to see objects that have never been on display before. Items on display will include a nickel plated water can, a Sam Eastman nozzle, and a 1925 strainer. Also on display will be a first generation defibrillator from the late 1970s and an Aero fog machine from 1980. The artifacts will remain on display throughout the weekend. The Museum is open Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday noon-4pm.

On Friday evening only, a 1943 Seagrave pump truck will be on display in front of the Museum at the top of Monument Terrace.
The Museum is at 901 Court Street and is on the free trolley route that loops between participating attractions.
