Beginning early summer 2014, the City’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) project will cause the closure of much of Riverfront Park (1100 Jefferson Street) through at least the spring of 2015. During construction, much of the park will be fenced to prevent public access. Partial closures or re-routings of nearby trails and parking lots are anticipated for brief periods, and signage will be in place with alternate route information.
The Riverfront Park fountain, however, will remain open daily throughout the construction from May 1 through October 1, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The fountain is free and open to the public and features synchronized water spouts perfect for splashing and playing. Pedestrian access to the fountain will be available from Jefferson Street.
Several large events that have previously been held at Riverfront Park have been moved to accommodate construction:
On April 26, the Lynchburg Music Festival will take place at Lynchburg City Stadium;
Beginning May 30, Friday Cheers will be held Friday evenings at the Lynchburg Community Market;
On May 31, the James River Wine & Music Festival will take place at Rebec Vineyards in Amherst, VA;
On July 26, the Ribs, Rhythm & Blues Festival will take place at Lynchburg City Stadium.
On September 20, the Lynchburg Beer & Wine Festival will take place at Lynchburg City Stadium.
