Guided Nature Walks Among New Fall Family Activities at Ivy Creek Park

Lynchburg, VA – Calling all kids with an itch to explore! Ivy Creek Park is hosting new exciting family activities during canoe rental hours for the months of August (Saturdays 8am – 1pm/Sundays 4pm – 8pm) and September (Saturdays/Sundays 10am-5pm). Along with the established canoe and kayak rentals, the park is introducing free “Explore Backpacks” for kids and educational activities led by the Central Virginia Master Naturalists. Designed for children, adults, and families, these new fall activities encourage visitors to engage with the natural resources in the park, helping to create fun and lasting memories.

Interested in education and exploration? The Central Virginia Master Naturalists will be volunteering at Ivy Creek Park on Saturdays and Sundays in August and September. Each Master Naturalist specializes in a specific outdoor theme, allowing visitors to choose their adventure. Adventures include: identification walks, bug hunts, wildflower walks, scavenger hunts, bird walks, water critter study and more. These excursions are open to all ages. See the full August/September Master Naturalist schedule at

The new Explore Backpacks are perfect for kids who love to investigate. Each pack contains a magnifying glass, net, bug containers, and animal ID cards. Kids can venture off with a parent to create their own adventure and learn in the process. These packs are free, and are available at the concession stand in exchange for a drivers’ license as collateral.
