From swim lessons to spraygrounds, lifeguard training to water slide, Lynchburg Parks & Recreation's Aquatics program offers summertime fun and learning for the whole family. Read about our programs below, and follow the links for more information.
Miller Park Pool
Miller Park Pool is the only public swimming pool in Lynchburg, offering a place for the community to gather, cool off, and have some wet and wild fun in the summer.
Miller Park Pool is closed for the 2013 season, but will reopen Memorial Day weekend in 2014.
Riverfront Park Fountain
Riverfront Park is located near the river in downtown Lynchburg, connects to the Riverwalk trail along its northern edge. Our Riverfront Park Fountain offers a splash of fun and a great way to cool down in the summer. Stop by and run on through!
Riverside Park Sprayground
The 1,900 square-foot sprayground at Riverside Park is the place to get wet and wild and crazy this summer! Squirting water, spitting frogs, dumping buckets and more will be running all summer long. Open daily May 1 - October 1, 11:00am - 7:00pm. FREE.
CLASSES & LESSONS
Lynchburg Parks & Recreation offers training classes to become an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. Certification includes training in First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Participants must be at least 15 years old, complete a pre-course swim and pass a final written test and skills challenge in order to obtain certification. Classes are held in the early spring and in the summer.
CPR Training for Lifeguards
Participating will demonstrate their technical skills and must successfully pass the written test with a minimum score of 80%. Certification earned is valid for two years. Space is limited.
Water Safety Instructor Class
Lynchburg Parks & Recreation offers training classes to become a Certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI). This course trains candidates to teach Water Safety, Parent & Child Aquatics, Pre-school Aquatics 1-3 and the six levels of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim classes. Candidates must be 16 or older & must pass a pre-course training and swim test. A current lifeguard certification is strongly recommended.
