Opportunity House provides residential and counseling support services for up to 15 at-risk male juveniles. The program provides crisis stabilization through its shelter care services, as well as, a longer term program for those youths requiring greater structure and supervision than can be provided in their home. The program moved to 405 Cabell Street in August 2007. In order to accommodate the numbers of youths served, a subsidiary site, Opportunity House II located at 1517 Jackson Street, was opened in September.
This program offers structure, supervision, case management as well as individual, group and family counseling to youths from Lynchburg and nearby localities. Goals the youths work on include: following their educational and/or work plan, improved decision making, developing anger management strategies, living with healthy lifestyles, forming healthy relationships, being responsible members of the community, in addition to more their personalized goals.
Visitation for the resident's parents/guardian is normally set for Sundays from 1:30 - 2:30. If the family has a special need, they can contact the caseworker to make alternative arrangements.
