    Downtown & Riverfront Master Plan 2000

    The Downtown & Riverfront Master Plan 2000, adopted by City Council on May 22, 2001, has provided a blueprint and a strategy for the last decade and a half of downtown revitalization in Lynchburg. The City of Lynchburg and Lynch’s Landing commissioned Sasaki Associates to develop this plan to address challenges and barriers to downtown’s revitalization and identify key opportunities to help create the downtown renaissance we are experiencing today.

    Projects like 9th Street streetscaping, Riverfront Park & Jefferson Street, and the Bluffwalk have been major accomplishments that were originally envisioned by this plan. The next major project is the ongoing replacement of waterlines throughout downtown – many of which are over 100 years old! New streetscaping on all downtown streets and a reversion to two-way traffic on Church Street and Main Street will accompany this project!  For more information about the waterline project, click here.
