The Department of Emergency Services (DES) is responsible for overseeing both the emergency communications and the emergency management functions for the City of Lynchburg. The DES operates to provide readily available access to Police, Fire, and EMS for the citizens of Lynchburg, Virginia. The goal of this agency is to respond with assistance to all emergencies in an expedient manner as to provide the best protection available in attempting to save lives and property.
As the City of Lynchburg’s only Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), the Emergency Communications Center is responsible for receiving and dispatching all police, fire, and EMS calls for service that originate within the city limits. The Center’s 29 public safety dispatchers handle approximately 170,000 such calls per year.
