Veteran's Day at Point of Honor
Originally known as Armistice Day, the holiday commemorates the end of combat in World War I, which occurred at 11 am on November 11, 1918. In 1954, President Eisenhower and Congress made it a national holiday which honors all who have served.
Free tours will be offered on Veteran’s Day at Point of Honor, Dr. George Cabell’s historic home, and guides will discuss life in Lynchburg in the 19th century. During the Battle of Lynchburg, Union spies visited the home and visitors can decide for themselves if this encounter had an impact on the outcome of the battle.
