The City of Lynchburg has been notified that it has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 14th consecutive year. The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting.
In order to receive the award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the City’s budget serves as:
• a policy document
• a financial plan
• an operations guide
• a communications device
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
“The City’s budget document is truly a team effort with assistance from every department,” said Chief Financial Officer Donna Witt. “I am proud that GOFA continues to recognize not only the quality of the document, but its usefulness to our citizens.”
Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
