Downtown Underground Survey Project (Mar. 12-29)

Beginning Tuesday, March 12 and continuing through Friday, March 29, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays, underground survey work will be conducted throughout the downtown Lynchburg area.  Accumark, a contractor for the City of Lynchburg, will drill test holes in the pavement to identify specific underground utility locations.  Additionally, Appalachian Power will access its underground vaults and manholes to analyze conditions.

During the week of March 12, Accumark will drill its test holes on Tenth Street (in the intersection of Tenth Street and Main Street) and on Main Street (in the 1000 block).  The locations of its work in the coming weeks will be announced every Friday as the project progresses.  Appalachian Power will access its manhole locations only on Wednesday, March 13.  Appalachian Power’s manholes are spread throughout Main Street and Commerce Street (between Fifth Street and 12th Street).

While some lane and on-street parking closures may occur, through traffic and pedestrians will maintain access at all times.  Both Accumark and Appalachian Power will clearly mark all lane and on-street parking closures and direct traffic as needed at intersections.

This underground survey project is part of the planning process for the Main Street Renewal Project, and is a joint project between the City of Lynchburg and Appalachian Power which will begin in the fall 2019.  More details about the Main Street Renewal Project, including project timelines and scope of work, will be announced in late spring 2019.
