A long term recovery group has recently been established to assist Lynchburg residents affected by the April 15 tornado with the recovery process. Joan Phelps, Director of Community Impact, United Way of Central Virginia, has volunteered to chair the group. Phelps has served with the United Way for 22 years.
On May 16, a number of non-profit organizations, volunteer groups, religious organizations and various City of Lynchburg departments met with representatives from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to learn more about organizational structure, logistics, community resources, volunteers, etc.
The long term recovery group is currently in the process of developing by-laws and an organizational structure so that it can move forward to assist Lynchburg residents. More information will be forthcoming once plans are in place.
