Main Street Renewal Project Update & Appalachian Power Work
Beginning Wednesday, February 26, and continuing for approximately five weeks, crews for the Main Street Renewal Project will move into the 1200 block of Main Street and the intersection of 12th and Main Streets. First, Appalachian Power will move a crew into the 1200 block of Main Street adjacent to 12th Street. Immediately following, waterline crews will move into the intersection of 12th and Main Streets. This work will be done in phases to accommodate traffic and complete the work quickly and efficiently. The approximate schedule is as follows:
PHASE I: FEBRUARY 26 - MARCH 9
Appalachian Power will move into the 1200 block at Main Street and occupy the parking lane and close the right-side driving lane approaching 12th Street in order to set a new manhole to tie-in to the Community Market transformer. This work will allow Appalchian Power to feed power to Main Street in two directions, improve reliability and increase capacity for future growth. These dates are weather dependent.
PHASE II: MARCH 9 - APRIL 3
Waterline crews for the City of Lynchburg will move into the intersection of 12th and Main Streets in order to install news waterlines and conduits underground, replacing the current aging waterline. These dates are weather dependent.
Motorists should obey all traffic signage and drive slowly as the work zone configurations will change throughout the durations of work. Main Street will continue to be open to one lane of traffic from Eighth to 12th Streets.
The City of Lynchburg continues to offer free two-hour parking for customers on the top level of the Midtown Parking Deck. Check in at the pay station at Midtown or on the Passport phone app for details.
