On April 29, at the Academy Center for the Creative Arts, the Mayor and Vice Mayor will recognize neighborhood organizations, groups and individuals who are working to make their neighborhoods a great place to live.
To honor the outstanding work that has been done to enhance the community during the past year, the City of Lynchburg has created the Lynchburg Neighborhood Recognition Awards Program to recognize individuals and neighborhoods that have gone above and beyond to make our community a better place to live, work and play.

OUTSTANDING NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE YEAR AWARD
Any Lynchburg city neighborhood or homeowners’ association that has facilitated improvements in its community and has kept its neighbors actively engaged in community building activities in the past year is eligible to be nominated for this award. The nomination must identify the improvement(s) initiated or completed by the neighborhood, how the improvement(s) brought neighbors together, the critical neighborhood needs addressed by the improvements the impact of the improvement(s) and the level of effort involved in completing the improvement(s). In addition, the nomination must also identify activities that were undertaken by the neighborhood to build or enhance neighborhood cohesion and communication.
LIFETIME NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICE AWARD
This award recognizes the contributions made by an individual who has given outstanding service to improve and/or positively affect the lives and living conditions of individuals in their neighborhood. Candidates for this award may often be referred to as the “unsung heroes” of their neighborhood.
PERFECT PARTNERSHIP AWARD
This award recognizes and honors the outstanding contributions, excellence and accomplishments achieved by neighborhood organizations and civic individuals who have partnered with City departments, schools, nonprofits, businesses, institutions and others to: (1) make physical and/or social improvements to our neighborhoods; (2) connect neighbors and/or neighborhoods with one another; and/or (3) build the capacity of their neighborhood organization to better serve our community.
COLLEGE STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD
This special service award recognizes a local college student who has volunteered their services with a neighborhood or other community group.
