Marjette Upshur, Director of the Lynchburg Office of Economic Development announced today the appointment of Anna Bentson as the Office’s first Assistant Director of Economic Development.
Bentson has served as the Executive Director of Lynch’s Landing, Lynchburg’s nonprofit organization dedicated to downtown revitalization, since 2011 and was selected after a national search. She has previous experience in marketing and communications at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest and the American Alliance for Museums and served as a Legislative Correspondent to United States Senator Ernest F. Hollings. She is a graduate of the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina. Bentson has been an active volunteer in a number of civic organizations, recently serving as president of the James River Council for the Arts and Humanities and on the Tourism Advisory Board.
Bentson’s responsibilities will include providing staff assistance to the Lynchburg Economic Development Authority, managing communications for the Office of Economic Development, promoting new business development and executing activities and initiatives that secure and retain commercial and industrial development in the City of Lynchburg.
In announcing the appointment, Upshur stated, “I am pleased to have a person of Anna’s experience, energy, and enthusiasm in this position. She has already established a broad network of contacts in the business community and enjoys its support.”
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join this team, and I am eager to work to build upon the effective initiatives of the Lynchburg Economic Development Authority,” said Bentson.
Bentson began in the new position on April 23.
