Portion of Seventh Street to Close for Appalachian Power Work (May 13-20)

Beginning Monday, May 13 and continuing through Monday, May 20, 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. weekdays and weather permitting, Seventh Street (from Main Street to Commerce Street) will be closed to accommodate underground work being conducted by Appalachian Power. One lane of traffic will remain open from Main Street heading downhill to Commerce Street.

Near the intersection of Main and Seventh Streets, crews will remove the grating and install a new manhole frame and cover. Once complete, they will begin work at a second location on Seventh Street (near Commerce Street) which will involve removing asphalt in order to raise the current manhole frame and cover so that it is even with the pavement.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zones and obey any temporary signage posted.

In July 2018, the City of Lynchburg and Appalachian Power announced the joint Main Street Renewal Project. Appalachian Power’s work on Seventh Street is a precursor to the Main Street Renewal Project which will begin in the fall of 2019.
