Sheriff's Office to Conduct Active Shooter Exercise on Court St. (Oct. 19)
Residents are asked to be aware that on Saturday, October 19, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Lynchburg Police and Fire Departments, will be conducting Active Shooter Exercise at the Lynchburg City Court Complex, located in the 900 block of Court Street, specifically at the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courthouse.
During that span of time, both the 900 and 1000 blocks of Court Street, and part of Clay Street will be blocked to through traffic. Residents and businesses will be accessible on Tenth Street and vehicles will be able to exit using 11th and 12th Streets. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
According to Lynchburg Sheriff Don Sloan, the exercise is being conducted to help better prepare both court staff and public safety should an active shooter incident occur.
“The Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office is committed to the ongoing training of our deputies to provide the utmost safety to the public,” said Sloan. “We also want to work with our fellow law enforcement deputies in doing what we can to help prepare our civilian court personnel should the time come when they may have to react to an active shooter situation.”
