    Summer Camp Registration Now Open

Parks & Recreation has opened registration for its 2013 summer camps. Parks and Recreation offers a variety of camps for kids ages 6-16 focusing on nature, athletics, transportation, and community interaction. Camp costs range from $50 - $195, and scholarships are available for those who qualify.

The Nature Zone offers two summer camps for those interested in nature and the outdoors. Young Naturalist Camp, for kids ages 6-8, gives campers the opportunity to discover the wonder of nature through hands-on lessons, games, hikes and fishing. Kids age 9-12 that attend Summer Adventure Camp will enjoy canoeing, hiking, geocaching, outdoor adventure games, camping, survival skills,  and more.

For those looking for a more athletic experience, this summer’s Skills & Drills Camps are designed to help campers improve on their footwork, speed, agility, and hand-eye coordination through drills in basketball, soccer, flag football, and tennis. Separate camps are offered for girls and boys, ages 8-10, and both take place at Jefferson Park Center.

New this year, Transportation Camps will offer participants the chance to explore the city – by foot, on wheels, with a ticket, and in a canoe. Kids will be encouraged to gains some independence as they learn their way around with maps, tickets, and schedules. Transportation Camp for ages 12-16 and Transportation Camp, Jr. for ages 8-10 will be held at Daniel’s Hill Center.

Classic “summer fun” camps will also be offered at Diamond Hill Center, Yoder Center, Jefferson Park Center, Daniel’s Hill Center, and a special “extreme” camp experience at Fairview Center. Fairview Extreme Camp will include some new exciting activities like archery and pickleball.
