Water Supply Currently Sourced From Pedlar Reservoir & James River

Due to very dry conditions in the Lynchburg area, the Department of Water Resources is currently sourcing water from both the Pedlar Reservoir and the James River.  Since water levels at the Pedlar Reservoir are continuing to drop and because there is no significant rain in the weather forecast, the Department of Water Resources has increased its intake of water from the James River from 30% to 60%.  Currently, the mix of source water is now 40% Pedlar Reservoir water and 60% James River water.

With this secondary source of water, the Department of Water Resources is able to continue to provide clean water to the City of Lynchburg.  At an average daily use of 10-11 million gallons of water per day, the City is currently only using approximately one percent of the daily flow of the James River.  This use of the James River also allows the Department of Water Resources to protect the water supply in the Pedlar Reservoir in case of an emergency.
