    Lynchburg Regional Tourism Board

    PURPOSE:  The purpose of the Lynchburg Regional Tourism Board is to assist the City in planning, organization, direction and administration of the City’s tourism program, to be known as the Lynchburg Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau. Lynchburg Regional Tourism Board Application
     
    MEMBERSHIP:  The Tourism Board shall consist of nine (9) members, all of whom shall be appointed by the Lynchburg City Council.  Any organization providing for the operation and management of the tourism program under a contract with the City shall have the right to submit a list of names to City Council for consideration for appointment to the board. One member of the board shall be the City Manager or Deputy City Manager. The other eight members of the board shall be appointed from the community and criteria for appointment may include, without limitation: (1) knowledge of the tourism industry and economic development interests, (2) relevant business experience, and (3) interest in and support of the tourism program. The City’s Director of Tourism, Director of Economic Development and Director of Communications and Marketing shall be ex officio members of the board, without voting rights.
     
    TERM OF OFFICE:  The eight (8) members appointed from the community shall initially serve terms as follows: two (2) of the members shall serve one (1) year terms, three (3) of the members shall serve two year (2) terms, and three (3) of the members shall serve three (3) year terms. After the initial appointments, all of the eight (8) members appointed from the community shall serve terms of three (3) years, and such members shall not be appointed for more than three (3) consecutive three (3) year terms. The City Manager or Deputy City Manager, Director of Tourism, Director of Economic Development, and Director of Communications and Marketing shall serve for an indefinite term.

    REQUIRED ATTENDANCE:  Tourism Board members must attend a minimum of seventy-five percent (75%) of the board’s meetings during a term to qualify for reappointment. If any board member is absent without cause for three consecutive meetings or is absent for four meetings in any twelve (12) month period, that member's position shall be deemed vacant.
     
    Vacancies occurring in the membership of the board shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner in which original appointments are made.
     
    The members of the Tourism Board serve at the pleasure of City Council and may be removed by Council for cause, as determined by City Council.
