    Miller Park

    29.67 acres
    2100 Park Avenue
    Lynchburg, VA 24501

In 1862 Samuel Miller donated 18 acres of land to the City of Lynchburg to be held “…in trust as, and for a public Promenade and Pleasure Ground for the use of the citizens of Lynchburg, and Strangers, and visitors temporarily sojourning there.” Those original 18 acres became City Park, the first public park in Lynchburg.  Renamed Miller Park in honor of Samuel Miller, the park has changed in many ways throughout its long history.

The park now has almost 30 acres and includes two picnic shelters that can be rented, as well as the historic Aviary, which can be used for weddings, parties, and other events. Miller Park Pool is the only public outdoor pool in Lynchburg, and can be rented for special occasions. To find out about how to rent these and other facilities throughout the parks, email Customer Service or call (434) 455-5858.

Miller Park also has a walking path, baseball fields, basketball court, horse-shoe pits, and playgrounds. Historic sites in the park include the Centennial Oak, the Fireman's Fountain, the Bicentennial grove of native trees, and a monument to the 5th Virginia Cavalry, which was mustered and disbanded on the site.

Entrances to the park are at the following locations:
