Land Records

Circuit Clerk OfficeRecords of land transactions for the City of Lynchburg are located in the public records area of the clerk's office. The records exist from 1805 to the present day. You can view property records, tax records, and property transfers for the City of Lynchburg on the GIS site.

These records are available to the public for reference and research. Copies of the records can be provided at the cost of $0.50 per page.

Recordation

All recordation of land transactions in the city of Lynchburg takes place in the Circuit Court Clerk's Office. Instruments presented for recordation must meet the Standards for Recorded Instruments as set forth by the Library of Virginia, pursuant to Code of Virginia 55-108. Recordings are taken between 8:30 am and 4:15 pm.

Lynchburg Circuit Court accepts e-recording for deeds through Simplifile and CSC.

Lynchburg Circuit Court records Real Estate Affidavits and a List of Heirs through Probate. The recording fees for a List of Heirs ($68) and Real Estate Affidavit ($69) can be found on the Probate page. Our Court records these filings through our Probate department.

The Virginia Courts Deed Calculation System can be used to calculate fees and taxes for recording deeds and contracts. Please contact the Clerk's office if you have specific questions about recording an instrument. Remote Internet Access to land records is available on a subscription basis. The original application must be mailed in and notarized. Please mail applications to Lynchburg Circuit Court, P.O. Box 4, Lynchburg VA 24505.

      • Increase the Library of Virginia Fee collected for Recording and Indexing from $1.50 to $3.50
    • HB1726/SB1038 - Open Space Preservation Fee
      • Increases the fee from $1 to $3

A fee is imposed on a Deed, Deed of Trust, Contract, or Other Instrument admitted to record pursuant to Code of Virginia 58.1-817 and admitted to record in jurisdictions in which open-space easements are held by the Virginia Outdoors Foundation.
