Fifth Street Project, Phase III
One lane of traffic will be open at all times on Fifth Street during construction. Cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, scooters, motorcycles, and all other vehicular traffic will be able to drive away from downtown towards Langhorne Road. Vehicles wishing to drive towards downtown on Fifth Street will need to follow the posted detour or find an alternate route.
How Construction Will Affect Businesses
The City and its construction contractor will work very hard to minimize inconveniences to businesses due to construction. Businesses and residents will receive construction information through public meetings, one-on-one meetings, small group and organizational meetings, news media, social media email updates and this website. We will work with area businesses to have alternate plans in place prior to construction and to make sure that businesses and patrons are given notice of when and where construction will take place. The contractor will provide business access signs for buildings/business in the construction zone.
Access to Business / Residence
- Vehicular Access: The project will progress on a block-by-block basis. As the construction progresses to your block, Fifth Street may be temporarily inaccessible to vehicles. However, the construction crew will work closely with business owners and residents to address concerns about access. Business access signs will direct motorists to business entrances.
- Pedestrian Access: Pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses and residences during construction.
- Parking: If you currently have parking in a designated area that will be in a construction zone, we will work with you to find another parking option.
Planned Water Shut Off
Utility Shut Off During Construction
During the construction of the water line, there will be periods when the water service must be turned off to transfer services from the old water line to the new line. The City will notify affected customers 48 hours in advance and will work with customers to plan the best time for these shutoffs.
Underground construction always contains some risk of the contractor striking an unknown utility line which may result in a water shutdown. We will do everything in our power to minimize these unplanned events and to restore the system to working condition as soon as possible.
Notice of Water Shut off
You will receive at least 48 hours of advanced notification of any planned water shut-offs via a flyer that will be placed on your door. Check the Water Shut-offs page on this site for current water shut-off information.
