About the Richland Hills Sewer Extension Project

The Richland Hills Sewer Extension Project will extend City of Lynchburg sanitary sewer access to all homes in the Richland Hills neighborhood. Currently, just 10% of homes in Richland Hills have access to City sewer, leaving many homeowners without options when it comes to the costly repair or replacement of their aging and failing septic systems. After a city-wide study of unsewered areas in 2021, Richland Hills presented the best opportunity to begin extending sewer service to more unserved City residents. The project also will provide improvements to the stormwater and water systems throughout the neighborhood.

The latest

The project is currently in its design phase. Surveyors are working in the neighborhood to prepare a final design and construction plan for the utility improvements. Lynchburg Water Resources is also in the process of obtaining the needed property easements. Upon completion of the design, the project will be bid to qualified contractors with the goal of beginning construction in 2024.
