Information for City of Lynchburg Residents Who Wish to Vote in the General Election on Nov. 8

The Commonwealth of Virginia and City of Lynchburg will hold a general election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Any voter in the city may vote in the general election for U.S. House of Representatives for Congressional District 5 and for the At-Large City Council race.  The Commonwealth and the City Registrar’s Office encourage voters to protect their health in case of a COVID-19 outbreak. 

Voters have four options to vote in these elections. 

1. Apply online or request an application to vote by mail.

The deadline to apply for a vote by mail ballot is Friday, October 28, 2022. Apply online at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation, or request a vote by mail application by calling the Registrar’s Office at (434) 477-5999.

After applying, you can check to see if your absentee application was received and whether your ballot was sent and received by going to the Citizen Portal at https://www.elections.virginia.gov/citizen-portal/.

2. Early Voting In-Person
In-person early voting will begin at the Registrar’s Office, 825 Kemper Street, Suite A on Friday, September 23 and will continue through Saturday, November 5. For your convenience, the Registrar’s Office will be open on Saturday, October 29 and November 5, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 

To vote early in-person:
• You do not have to have a reason or fill out an application to vote early.
• At the Registrar’s Office, you must provide your name and address and show an acceptable form of ID or sign an ID Confirmation Statement. 
• Accessible equipment and/or curbside voting is available upon request.

3. Ballot Dropboxes
Completed ballots may be dropped off in a secure box located at the Registrar’s Office. The dropbox will be available on the same dates and times as the early voting hours listed above.  Staff will come to the curbside for voters to drop off their ballots in the secure box. In addition, secure dropboxes staffed by election officials will be available at each precinct on Election Day.  

4. Voting in person on November 8
All precincts will be open for in-person voting on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8, 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.  

Residents who have not yet registered to vote in Lynchburg or need to make changes to their name and/or address on record must file a voter registration application by Monday, October 17, 2022.
