About Information Technology
The Information Technology Department is responsible for the management and operation of the information technologies used by City departments. The Department provides the following services:
- Application Services (software programming and support)
- Network Services (data center, networks, telecommunications, and end-user support)
- GIS - Geographic Information System (including online maps, apps, and data)
Digital Cities Award Winner
The Center for Digital Government's Digital Cities Survey recognizes cities for their strategic and effective use of information technologies to serve their citizens and perform local government operations. Since 2004, the City of Lynchburg has been ranked in the Top-6 nationally for cities in its population group! Lynchburg has ranked first place in the nation in 2007, 2008, 2017 and 2019. Second place rankings were in 2010, 2011, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Lynchburg ranked 4th place in 2022!
