Blasting Operations to be Conducted Along Lakeside Drive (March 1-26)
Lakeside Drive Bridge Over Blackwater Creek Project
Beginning Monday, March 1 and continuing through approximately Friday, March 26, weather permitting, contractors for the City of Lynchburg will conduct blasting operations along Lakeside Drive in order to clear rocks away in preparation for storm drain installations. During the time of periodic blasts, flaggers will hold traffic at a safe distance for up to 10 minutes. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes if at all possible to avoid delays.
Air horns will sound and be audible for a minimum of one mile from the blast site. The following warning signs will be used during the blasting operations:
• Five minutes before the blast - one long signal will be made from an air horn.
• One minute before the blast - one short signal will be made from an air horn.
• After the blast - one long signal will be made from an air horn to signal “all clear.”
The blasts will be small, and residents and businesses who may be in the affected area will be contacted directly prior to and throughout the blasting operations.
The City of Lynchburg plans to reconstruct a new section of Lakeside Drive in order to improve traffic flow through the existing intersection at Lakeside Drive/College Drive/Old Forest Road and as a requested precursor to the College Lake Dam Removal Project. These modifications will enhance safety and improve access to the University of Lynchburg via Hopwood Drive.
