    City of Lynchburg Receives Digital Cities Award

    The Center for Digital Government (CDG) has announced  the winners of the 2021 Digital Cities Survey, recognizing cities utilizing technology to tackle social challenges, enhance services, strengthen cybersecurity and more. The top 10-ranking cities in each of five population categories and the Future Ready Award winner will be honored during the Digital Cities Awards and Workshop event on December 8. 

    “Innovative cities are able to leverage data and harness new technology to enhance the services they provide,” said CDG Vice President Phil Bertolini. “The Center for Digital Government congratulates this year’s winners for putting technology to good use toward improving the lives of constituents and strengthening the relationships they have with their partners.” 

    This year, the City of Lynchburg tied for Fifth Place in its population category (75,000 – 124,999) with Avondale, AZ. This is the 18th consecutive year the City of Lynchburg has been in the national top ten ranking.

    “We are extremely honored to be recognized again this year with the Digital Cities Award,” said Interim Chief Information Officer Tom Williamson. “To have placed in the top ten of our population category for 18 consecutive years is a testament to the dedication of the City organization and its employees to deploy technology that better serves our residents and businesses.”

    The Digital Cities award is based on ten key characteristics including:

    •    Citizen-centric: Government Experience (Mobile, Engaged, Digital Services)
    •    Efficient: Data-driven 
    •    Data Governance: Utilization of data
    •    Secure: Cybersecurity Measures/ Initiatives
    •    Resilient: Disaster Recovery/ Continuity of Operations 
    •    Staffed/ Supported: Hiring and Retaining Competent IT Personnel
    •    Connected: Connected Infrastructure and Bridging the Divide
    •    Innovative: Innovative Initiatives and New Technologies 
    •    Best Practices
