Sellers Appointed New Director of Human Services Dept.

City Manager Wynter C. Benda announced today the appointment of Preston Sellers to the position of Director of Human Services. Sellers has served as the department’s interim director for approximately six months. This is the City Manager’s first appointment since assuming his position earlier this month.  Sellers will assume his new position on September 1, 2021.

“I am very excited to be able to appoint Preston to this position. Everyone on the interview panel agreed he was a superb candidate for the position. I was so impressed with not only his interview, but also with his professional career, including his 23 years serving in the United States Army and his many years in the social services field,” said Benda.

Deputy City Manager Reid Wodicka, who appointed Sellers to the interim position, said he has shown great leadership abilities, is well-respected in his field and is committed to public service. “During his stint as Interim Director of Human Services,” said Wodicka, Preston has proven he has great leadership skills and is a team player. He has successfully addressed some of the issues that existed in the department and this appointment is well deserved.”

In addition to serving as Interim Director, Sellers has worked with the Human Services Department since 2008 when he began as a Benefit Programs Specialist. In 2018, he was promoted to Benefits Programs Manager where he planned, organized and directed the workload and activities for Benefit Program units. In addition, he monitored program outcomes and compliance with all federal, state and local laws.

Sellers said he is very appreciative of the opportunity and looks forward to continuing to serving the community and working with the organization. “I am very excited about this opportunity,” said Sellers. “I appreciate the administration’s support and belief in me, and I look forward to continuing this journey with Human Services. Public service has always been critically important to me, and I am committed to providing quality service to our constituents and in continuing to work with the great team here in Juvenile and Social Services.”
