Online Banking

Customers who pay their City of Lynchburg Utility, Personal Property, and Real Estate bills using their on-line banking service should:

  • Set up a separate account name (payee) for each of your City of Lynchburg accounts. Verify the account number on each bill type. If you have more than one of each bill type (example: 2 Personal Property accounts), a separate payee will need to be set up. Utility bills have a twelve (12) digit account number, Personal Property bills have a six (6) digit account number, and Real Estate bills have an eight (8) digit parcel/account number.
  • Do not use one account number for all bills you are paying to the City of Lynchburg. If you do, your payments may not be credited to the proper accounts and/or may be credited back to your banking account which may result in penalty and interest being applied to your City of Lynchburg accounts.
  • Use the correct address for the accounts you are paying. Following are the only accounts the City has set up for on-line banking at this time:
Utility Billing address:
City of Lynchburg Utility Billing
P. O. Box 9000
Lynchburg VA 24505-9000

Personal Property address:
City of Lynchburg
P. O. Box 9000
Lynchburg VA 24505-9000

Real Estate address:
City of Lynchburg
P. O. Box 9000
Lynchburg VA 24505-9000

  • Be aware of your bill due dates and number of days it takes your payment to reach the City of Lynchburg. The City does not receive your payment the same day you create the payment. Some on-line banking payments take two business days and some take five business days to be received by the City and processed to your accounts. You are making on-line payments electronically, but some banking institutions prepare a paper check and mail it to the City of Lynchburg via the U. S. Postal Service.
  • You should keep a record of your payments made through your on-line banking service.
  • Periodically check your account numbers to ensure they are correct and have not changed. Personal Property account numbers (tax on vehicles and business equipment) could possibly change as new vehicles are purchased and/or sold. Your Utility account numbers (water bill) change if you move to a different address. Your Real Estate parcel/account numbers (house or land tax) change if you buy and/or sell property.
